Full Disclosure: I just noticed last night that the dashboard has a common 1st-gen Focus quirk where the Check Engine Light glows very dimly even when the car is off. It is not lit brightly as would be in an actual error and is not easily seen in the daytime. I’ve checked it — it is an electrical 'ghost' in the instrument cluster circuit board, not a mechanical issue. The Ford Focus has a special mode to show the error codes, and it shows 'DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) - NONE'. This is illustrated in the pictures and can be demonstrated live.
